New Boy Lost In The Woods
Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to say hello, and get some of the low down on the phrases / etiquette used on forums as I'm a total noob at this, and don't want to offend. I have just signed up as my little brother has very kindly just picked up a burner for me (bless him) and although I have to wait two weeks to get my hands on it, I thought I'd try to get some inspiration, and the some idea of the best places to get parts, tyres, paint, pads etc cos I'm well lost!!! :?!:

Deano- 04-25-2010

Hey mate, welcome aboard

You will find all you need here for your coming bmx

You need to decide on a colourway and them choose parts to suite, like if your doing a spec build check the spec sheets.

You will find your way soon im sure

Something Dirty- 04-25-2010

Thanks very much Deano I will do.

I'm looking at colours now, and was thinking white and blue a bit like when I was a kid, but blue parts seem to be very, very rare, and the original amber wall tyres with blue tread are non existent!!

Suggestions welcome!

Deano- 04-25-2010

Is your Burner a mk1 or mk2?

If its blue gumwall you want then you will pay good money for them, if its snakebelly blue gumwalls you will lose a limb or kidney to pay for some

Oddesey do a remake that look quiet good imo (in my opinion)

Try Rini's for tyres, i just google Rini's bmx and it comes up

Deano,

There's a good question! I don't rightly no if it's a mk1 or mk2 and as I've not collected it from my brother yet I don't have a decent picture. Sorry. I do know he following :
it's currently black, with black brake calipers/levers
it has the frame brace at the head
wire spoke wheels (silver and very, very clean)
the handle bars are the type that go straight across at the bars. not the usual 'v' bar, or mid level straight bar (does that make sense)

Any help identifying it would be very helpful, although I'm not too fussed. I'm just chuffed to see one again!

I'll check out your suggestions for the websites cos the colour scheme is going be dependent on what I can get my hands on.

By the way. Whats the difference in the tyre types? I remember the amber wall with the odd shaped nobbly pattern.

Deano- 04-25-2010

Yes mate odd shaped tyre pattern was prob comp3's (like dog bones) and snake bellys are like a V shape across the tyre

Mk1 has the frame gusset by the headtube and round tubing frame, mk2 is oval (aero) tubing frame.

Some specs vary as you can get a gusset less mk1 also.

You will be riding it a take it? or is it for show? This also helps decide which parts to buy imo.

Best to get your bike the write a list of parts you need and work out, cost/colour/make/ do beware of cheap dangerous parts on the market IE cheap mags that are like toffee.

Something Dirty- 04-25-2010

Yeah it's got the gusset and round tubing so looks very much like it's a mk1.

I'm looking to give it a new lease of life, but I defo won't have the time to show it. Just looking forward to day riding down the sea front on sunny days like a 12 year old again!

I was thinking of the dog bone tyres, so thanks for letting me know their proper name. Should save some embarrassment! I hope! Lol!

Was considering a new set of skyways (proper jobs not fakes) but like you say it's getting all the colours together, so I'm begining to head down the black n white / black and chrome route as the calipers, levers etc are all black anyway. Like I say all suggestions are welcome.

Oh can you tell me, should I be looking for 'v' bars for a mk1 then or just the mid level straight bar. I want to replace the bars that are on it, which as i said go straight across from the grips. They're in good nick, just not my thing)

oldboyburner- 04-25-2010

welcome in something dirty

Deano- 04-25-2010

Well anything on it you have and dont want DONT throw out. Everything is worth a try to sell first

V bars will give you slightly more knee space than straight id say so if your a fully grown man (not like me) lol you need all the room you can get.

So v bars are for mk1's and benefit the larger rider

Black/white or chrome sounds great and works real well. :19:

See your getting used to it already and research is key, on prices to buy/sell at and skyways are the only way to forfill a childhood memory afaic (as far as im concerned). Few other good makes worth riding too mind.

Use the owners gallery for inspiration, eagmister i think did a nice black/white Burner :?!:

Thanks for the welcome chaps.

Deano, you're a star! Was a bit apprehensive about getting stuck into this, as although I'm all grown up (Well to be honest, and according to some, too grown up!) I was beginning to think this could be a real nightmare. I've spent years harping on about the fact my parents got shot of my pride and joy, and now I've got to put my money where my mouth is!!!!

Again any suggestions please let me know. I'm just trying to find some more info about the burner bash on Saturday as I think I know what the kids and I'll be doing!!!!

Right 'v' bar search! Wish me luck!!!
