How to remove anno and polish to a shine**If the part is used make sure you rub down any scratches and scuffs with increasingly finer grades of sandpaper before moving on to step 1**
1. Pop along to your local supermarket and pick up a pack of Oven Pride.
2. Dismantle any bits you don't want to ruin. For this example I used a hub so the axle, bearing house and bearings were removed first.
3. Put on a pair of rubber gloves..this is VERY important unless you are the sort of person who doesn't mind ugly painful chemical burns.
4. Pour the oven Pride into the bag, pop in the part to be de-annod and seal the bag. Turn the bag to make sure the solution covers the part evenly. **Keep the gloves on in case you accidently put a hole in the bag**
5. After 10 mins or you will see the anno coming off. You can gently rub the part through the bag to help the anno come off if you're the impatient type. Carefully remove the part from the bag (watch for drips) and rinse the solution off with cold water. Your part will now be de-anno'd
6. Once the part is dry pop over to your converted drill or grinder.
7. Using a medium mop and green compound give it a good polishing with medium pressure and you will go from a dull metal like this
to shiny like this
This is literally after 10 mins on both hubs. They still have to be polished with the soft mop and blue compound but I've had to order a smaller mop as I can't get to all the nooks and crannies.
to be continued................
In the meantime keep the missus happy by polishing up her wedding ring and any other jewelery.
