spot on glynn, just wat i needed to do mine!!

russ j- 10-06-2008

nice one glynn  i would say if anyone gets into the polishing the next tool to get would be a bench grinder
Agreed darren but i just wanted to show if your doing a few bits over 2 or 3 resto's it doesn't have to cost the earth and isn't that hard to do. Depending on which parts your doing of coarse. Stems, brakes, chainrings all not too bad to do but as you know darren rims are one time consuming biatch

I agree with that Glynn

Just been reading through this as i've been inspired to make a brake set and stem look cool again. ;)

Posting as there's currently 10% off the polishing kit at the moment making the total £11.50. 8)

Cracking thread Glynn. 8)

It took me a while to get the technique right, i wasn't using enough polishing compund on the mop initially. What grades of sandpaper and wet and dry did you use Glynn? After disappointing results initially (which i now suspect was lack of polishing compound) i started with 200 grit on the sander before working up to 1200 grit in 200 grit steps over the sink. The shine came quickly after that mind!

Here's a stem i've been working on in my spare time over the past few days.

Before:

The 'flecks' on the stem are from the cloth i dried it with.

This picture does it more justice.

It's surprising how quickly and easily the bolts clean up. Was dreading doing them but they were the easiest part!
