Greetings! New Member
Morning all, Found this place after an evening of nostaligia in the pub with the lads, talking about all the cool bikeswe used to have as kids, for me the bike to have was always a burner! I think I was 8/9 when I got my first, a red Mk1 Burner, brand new and it was my pride and joy until it got nicked a few months after it was bought! I was gutted but my parents couldnt afford another Raleigh, so I was given a blue and yellow peugeot BMX, shop soiled but good as new, Had thats for a long time and cant really remember what happened to it (probably nicked as well, I lived in a rough area!) Then I did a deal with a kid at school who used to race BMXs for one of his old Robinson race bikes, he had snapped the top tube racing, but I had someone weld it up and it was fine!, remember it has a proper 3 piece crank (suntour???) and quality racing rims. Think I ended up swapping thats for a suzuki field bike, but then picked up an old mk2 night burner, It was complete but wrecked, so i pulled it down, stripped the frame back to chrome (for some reason the forks were steel so I sprayed those illuminous pink - ok, it was 1989 after all!) then put a set of CW bars and acorn mag 20 wheels on it. Thats was a monster bike and I loved it, but yes, you guessed it when I was 17 someone broke into my dads shed and stole it! I thought I'd get myself a wreck and restore it as a bit of a laugh, but I cant believe how much these things are going for nowadays! I think my ideal would be a mk2 super tuff burner, as I remember drooling over the pages of my mums catalogues when I was young dreaming of owning one! So, basically a hello from me and only one question. the 'Styler mag 20' burners seem to be a little cheaper on ebay, are thse the same frame & forks design as the other mk2 burners (i know is probably not chromoly) and what would it cost to have it plated up in that lovely gold colour? It might be a cheap way to get a set of F&F to start a resto on!!

if starting with a styler .. youd need to chrome it first; then superchrome it a shortcut would be buy a frame and forks that are already chrome then send it away for superchroming in gold (superchrome is a see through powdercoat ontop of chrome) youd need to find a frame and forks with very good chrome on it .. the supertuff was FULL-CR.MO on the brake bridge of the frame. if starting with a non chrome frame some of the guys on here know chromers.. cheers... and welcome on board!

It would cost a hell of a lot more to get a chroming job done, than just buying one chromed in the first place. A lot of the stylers also don't have the R cutouts on the dropouts. MIKE0310 has a MT cromo chromed frame for sale at the moment. It has a blue/smoke superchrome fade which can be stripped. But the frame itself is minty and will be excellent for your needs.

AND Zippy is selling a fully built restored spec mk2 supertuff in for sale as well for 320 which is a bargain price mate.

Gernster- 10-15-2008

well, I'm afraid I jusdt aint got the pennies mate, especially coming up to chrimbo, my plan is to find something complete (now looking for night burners/ super/ supertuffs) for about £50 and restore it to rider spec as you guys seem to call it, then if I get really into it I might go down the resto route. However, my wife thinks I'm bonkers and she has allready said I aint having one! I'll win though, I usally do after the initial resistance :P

ah, fellow dubbers, I run a 1990 Mk2 Golf GTi 8v, but fitted with a 1.6GTD Diesel engine, running on Biodiesel! yeah, I think the place to look will be car boots/ free ads etc not the net as the demand seems to drive up prices. You never know, I might drop lucky and i'm not in a rush to purchase.....
